  • Espresso Machines: These are for the coffee connoisseurs who love a strong, rich coffee. May require a little more effort to use, but the end result is worth it.
  • French Press: This is for the purists who love to control every aspect of the brewing process. Not as quick as other methods, but can yield a very satisfying brew.

Factors To Consider Before Buying A Coffee Maker Under 100

There are many coffee makers, sometimes it is hard to find the best one, that’s why we look at some important factors before deciding. If you also want a perfect one that fits under your $100 budget, then these factors you should consider. These factors will ensure you get the perfect cup of coffee every time and that your coffee maker serves you well over the years.

1. Types of Coffee Makers

There are various types of coffee makers available in the market, each serving a unique purpose and creating different types of coffee. From single-serve machines to espresso makers, French press, and drip coffee makers, you need to identify which one fits your needs best.

2. Size and Capacity

Size matters when it comes to coffee makers. If you are a solo coffee drinker, a small, single-serve coffee maker will be sufficient. However, if you often make coffee for multiple people, you will require a coffee maker with a larger carafe and brewing capacity.

3. Ease of Use

Coffee makers can range from simple, one-button devices to complex machines with various settings. If convenience is your priority, go for a simpler model. However, if you want to experiment with different brew strengths and temperatures, choose a model with these features.

4. Maintenance

No one likes to spend a lot of time cleaning their coffee maker. Some models are easier to clean than others, and some even have self-cleaning features. Consider how much effort you are willing to put into maintenance when choosing your coffee maker.

5. Brew Time

If you are always in a hurry in the morning, you’ll want a coffee maker that brews quickly. However, remember that sometimes, speed can compromise the quality of the brew, so choose wisely.

6. Brand Reputation

Finally, consider the brand reputation. Choose a brand that is known for its quality and durability, and has good customer reviews. After all, you want your coffee maker to last.

Taking the time to consider these factors will help you choose the best coffee maker under $100 and ensure that you’re sipping perfect coffee for years to come.

Things to Consider Before Buying a Ninja Coffee Bar

1. Design and Appearance

Ninja Coffee bar is ingeniously designed and needs a fixed spot on your kitchen counter. Its plastic exterior has some metal accessories.

Ninja Coffee Bar has bulky dimensions (WxDxH) of 9.21 x 11.34 x 15 inches with a weight of 12.73 pounds. That means it isn’t portable.

Its multi-serve dial is pretty simple, and it includes 4 to 6 options (as per the model). For instance, it offers Cup, XL Cup, Travel Mug, XL Multi-Serve, Half Carafe, and Full Carafe.

Moreover, this coffee maker has a complex interface which is suitable for a pro who has used coffee makers before.

When it comes to the layout of the models of Ninja Coffee bar, they have some major differences apart from the carafe system.

Ninja Coffee Bar - CF097

This model has a more modern-squarish outlook in terms of its water reservoir, brew basket, and more. Apart from design, this model has an integrated frother.

Ninja Coffee Bar - CF085z

This model has a more retro-cylindrical outlook in terms of its water reservoir, brew basket, and more. Apart from the design, you need to buy the frother separately.

2. Ninja Coffee Bar Brew Sizes

Brew dial options vary from 4 to 6 depending on the model. I’ve grasped these by default brew sizes from the machine manual.

For Instance, the approximate brew sizes for CF091, CF097, and CF110 are this:

However, the brew sizes for CF080 and CF085 Ninja Coffee Bar are this:

These models have a slight difference in their brewing size but overall they serve us a variety of beverages.

Take help from the below measurements of ground coffee for each brew size.

Note: When using whole beans, exceeding the suggested medium grind size may cause overflowing of the brew basket.

3. Ninja Coffee Bar Brew Types

Another feature that distinguishes the Ninja Coffee Bar System is its six custom brews that suit every taste and use.

Classic Brew
For smooth and balanced flavor.
Rich Brew
For a richer and never-bitter flavor that ascends to flavoring of milk.
Over Ice Brew
For a rich, smooth, freshly brewed iced coffee (not diluted with water)
Specialty Brew
For concentrated-rich to use as a key ingredient for frozen/iced coffee house style and hot milk-based drinks.
Cafe Forte Brew
For deep, full-bodied and complex flavor that is so rich and drinkable, that not milk or sweeteners are needed.

4. Ninja Coffee Filters

Ninja Coffee Bar comes with a permanent filter that is reusable and keeps the coffee oil and intense flavor intact like a French press.

This permanent gold-tone filter is environmentally friendly and simple to clean. You can also go with the #4 paper cone filter and place it in the removable filter carrier.

Remember, when using paper filters, remove the permanent filter and fold the edges so that the filter sits smooth and flat in the brew basket without folding over on itself.

5. Ninja Auto IQ Technology

The Auto IQ regulates the flow and temperature of the water. It stops in the middle of a brew to allow the grounds to evenly saturate at varied rates for each brew option. It is known as the pre-infusion cycle.

This differentiates Ninja Coffee Bar Brewing System from the traditional coffee makers that over-extract the grounds, which causes bitterness and sour taste.

Ninja Coffee Bar begins its magic when it pulls the needed amount of water for the brewing option (you’ve selected) and sets the water temperature between 195-205 degrees for a perfect cup.

Assume you want a specialized brew of intense coffee. Auto IQ system will portion out enough water for 3.1 oz of concentrate if you choose the single-cup size. Auto IQ will measure out 4 oz of concentration if you switch to the portable mug size.

6. Ninja Coffee Bar Water Reservoir

The Ninja Coffee Bar has a 43 to 50-ounce translucent plastic water tank that covers almost 10 cups. This removal water reservoir has a flip-top for practical access and quick filling and hand grips so you can easily lift the reservoir.

You can easily remove or fill it from the top as well. Additionally, its measuring scale helps you to fill it up to the max level, and then the Auto-IQ will do the rest.

7. Ninja Coffee Scoop

The Ninja Coffee Bar includes a two-sided hanging scoop for precise measurement. The bigger side intends for carafes, half-carafes, and concentrated settings. While the smaller side intends for cups and travel mugs.

The dishwasher-safe scoop has mentioned serving instructions to help you add the proper quantity of coffee grinds.

8. Thermal Flavor Extraction

Ninja introduces its three-step Thermal Flavor Extraction method:

  1. Consistent Temperatures
  2. Variable Bloom
  3. Even Saturation

This technology starts with a showerhead-style faucet that pulls water from the reservoir to the drip basket.

When it pours a small amount of hot water into the coffee ground, the grinds permit fumes and become fuller and rich. You need to wait for at least 30 seconds for this part, i.e., Auto- IQ tech controls the bloom time too.

The consistent temperature of the water also has an impact on the quality of the brew. Ninja's excel showerhead evenly saturates coffee grounds.

Apart from this, both carafes include a brew-through lid that looks like a funnel and assures a constant pour – no one cup should be stronger or weaker than the others.

9. Ninja Coffee Bar Milk Frother

Ninja Coffee Maker with a frother or the hand pump is its best feature. This depends on the model which you’re buying.

CF110, CF091, and CF097 come with an integrated frother that produces milk foam for hot and chilled beverages. Whereas, for CF85 and CF80, you need to purchase the  hand pump separately.

Users find just one issue with the Ninja frother, and that is it doesn’t heat or chill your milk. You need to do this part yourself.

10. Cleaning & Maintaining the Ninja Coffee Bar

Its cleaning and maintenance are simple because of its detachable parts like a water reservoir, carafe, brew basket, and more.

For cleaning after the brew, close the drip stop and carefully remove and wash the permanent filter. If you're using a paper filter, throw it away. Remove the brew basket from the brewer and rinse with soap and warm water.

You can rinse the carafe and water reservoir with warm soapy water and a soft brush. Also, both the carafe and reservoir are dishwasher safe. You can place them in the top rack too.

Note: the Ninja thermal carafe system is not dishwasher safe

For further cleaning and descaling, Ninja Coffee Bar read the instructions mentioned in the manual guide from  here.

11. Ninja Coffee Bar Thermal vs Glass Carafe

The Thermal Carafe System includes a 43 or 50 oz double-walled, vacuum-sealed stainless steel thermal carafe that keeps coffee hot for up to 2 hours.

The Glass Carafe System includes a 43 or 50-ounce glass carafe. The Glass Carafe System, unlike the Thermal Carafe System, includes a warming plate.

12. Ninja’s Precise Temp Warming Plate

Ninja designed the warming plate with a unique feature called Precise Temp Technology. The phrase is fancy, but this intelligent warming plate adjusts the temperature based on the volume of coffee made.

This means that a cup and a full carafe will have distinct temperatures. I know it is a basic function but appreciated by anyone who has burned their coffee on a too hot warming plate.

Another feature of the warming plate is its Stay Warm Button which turns on automatically after brewing a carafe and turns off after 2 hours.

Ninja Coffee Bar Troubleshooting

What do I do if my Ninja Coffee Bar is beeping?

If you hear Ninja Coffee Bar’s beep after toggling the brew button, make sure that the drip stop valve is open, and the brew basket is inserted all the way in.

Why does the Ninja Coffee Bar take so long to brew?

The Ninja brews at a snail’s pace. In the single-serve game, a single-cup size takes around 4 minutes, and a full carafe takes about 8 minutes. If it takes too long, consider running a descale cleaning cycle.

Why are there filters in my cup?

Because the permanent filter has a different filter makeup than the paper filters. After using rough coffee ground you’ll get small particles. If the problem remains, try using number 4 cone paper filters.

Why is my Ninja not dispensing the proper amount of coffee?

The first thing to check is that you selected the proper settings. For example, the small cup setting could have four different brew sizes depending on the brew type you select.

What is the problem with the delay brew function?

Check that the brew basket inserts inward and the drip stop is open. Also, if you brew another cup before the delay brew begins, the delay brew function will cancel.

Why is the clean button illuminated?

It illustrates that it is time for you to descale Ninja Coffee bar.

My coffee is not that warm.

Ninja requires one full brew to heat all of its components. Thus, the second and third brews are hotter than the first. Pre-heating your mug with hot water will assist your coffee to hold its heat and make your first brew hotter.

My coffee is either too strong or too weak.

Because the Ninja is not a pod-based brewer, you can adjust the coffee grind volume and size. If your coffee is excessively strong, try coarse grind or fewer coffee grounds. Try the opposite if your coffee is too weak.

What if my Ninja Coffee Maker leaks?

If it’s coming from the brew basket, make sure all of the components correctly fit together. If the leak is coming from the machine’s inside or the base, contact customer support (1-877-646-5288).

FAQs

Can you make Espresso With Ninja Coffee Bar?

The Ninja Coffee Bar creates a close but not identical imitation of espresso. If you enjoy coffee and don't mind a little replica, the Ninja Coffee Bar is just what you're searching for. The espresso isn't real, but it's still tasty.

Ninja’s Auto IQ technology brews the Specialty Brew, which is darn close to espresso and will do just well in your cappuccino or latte.

Can a drip brewer make espresso?

It's all about the pressure when it comes to espresso. Because espresso machines blend coffee grounds and water under pressure, they can produce coffee concentrates.

As per the industry consensus, espresso requires at least 9 bars of pressure. Several home espresso makers offer 15-19 bars of variable pressure.

Drip brewers, such as the Ninja Coffee Bar System, are incapable of producing anything close to the requisite pressure.

What kind of espresso flavor will their Specialty Brew have?

The specialty brew setting pre-infuses the coffee grinds with water for best extraction rather than just passing the required volume of water through the grounds. The entire procedure takes around 60 seconds, and the end effect is rather remarkable.

As a consequence, you have a strong coffee concentrate. It's not an espresso with rich crema, but Ninja's pre-infusion and water volume control via Auto IQ allow extraction parallel to the drip brewer.

Can you make Iced Coffee with Ninja Coffee Maker?

Ninja Coffee Bar will not brew an iced beverage, but yes, you can blend the coffee concentrate with the ice.

Ninja’s Over-Ice setting through Auto IQ creates a coffee concentrate when topped on ice, melts it, and dilutes it to the ideal iced coffee concentration. Also, you can further drop some more ice in the sun’s scorching heat.

Some users find the iced coffee not that much diluted, which means that the melting of ice cubes with a hot coffee concentrate leaves tiny ice cube shards that haven’t yet fully melted.

But it is a concern for those who are picky. Still, you can get the best flavor of iced coffee.

How does the integrated milk frother work on the Ninja Coffee Bar?

For the Ninja Coffee Bar Integrated frother, you first need to microwave the milk for 60 seconds or chill the milk for 1 hour.

After heating or cooling the milk, pour it into the cup or pot. To whisk the milk for the required volume, immerse the cup into the frothing arm and rapidly push the plunger manually.

The hand pump frother, which is a replica of a French press coffee maker, is microwave safe. That means you can do everything in one container. I’m certain that you’ll be surprised after seeing the aeration in 5-10 seconds.

As per my experience, when I poured the foamed milk into my cappuccino mug, I observed approx 1.5 inches of light froth.

How good is the Ninja Coffee Bar frother?

Although it is not as good as a steam frother, the Ninja Coffee Bar frother functioned great in terms of its low cost and simplicity.

Are all Ninja Coffee makers Ninja Coffee Bars?

Not at all! They were termed coffee bars because they offered more brew strength, kind, and size options than any other Ninja drip coffee maker on the market. Now it is renewed and can brew cold coffee and have K-Cup compatibility.

What drinks can you make with Ninja?

You can make as many drinks as possible like Iced chai latte, Hot chocolate, White chocolate, mocha Latte, Caramel macchiato (Iced or hot), and more.

How Do I Reset My Ninja Coffee Maker?

Simply unplugging your Ninja coffee maker is the simplest way to reset all of its settings.

What Is the Over Ice Brew?

This brew produces concentrated coffee so that when it is poured over ice, the finished beverage will not taste watered down.

What Is the Drip Auto Stop on the Ninja Coffee Bar?

With the Drip Auto Stop, the valve under the brew basket closes when you pull out the carafe. There is a switch in the Specialty and Hot & Cold Brewers to manually close the valve.

What Kind of Coffee Does a Ninja Coffee Bar Need?

It is compatible with all types of coffee. You can experiment with a new flavor or single-origin bean. It works best with medium grind size. It lacks an integrated grinder, so if you buy whole bean coffee, you’ll need to purchase a separate grinder.

Is There a Pause Option in Ninja Coffee Bar?

Yes, but not automatically. You can pause it by closing the Drip Stop switch. This will totally halt the brewing process, allowing you to remove your cup or carafe and turn on the Drip Stop light.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The Ninja Coffee Bar is best suited for those who want the usual single-serve cups with some extra aroma, half or full pots, and intense brew for iced coffee. Additionally, it offers more flexibility than other coffee makers like Keurig and Nespresso.

While not all models are readily available, you can enjoy its renewed version in the form of a Hot & Cold brewer, which lets you brew in Cold Brew mode and has a dedicated tea cartridge.

If you still like the whole aurora of Ninja Coffee Bar, then I recommend you hurry up and get one for yourself from here.

Nespresso Breville vs DeLonghi: 2 Top Tier Manufacturers Compared [2023]

Are you in the market for a Nespresso machine but are confused on the price or the weird branding? This is our comparison of Nespresso Breville vs DeLonghi, two popular espresso manufacturers, where we aim to clear it all up.

We'll help you make the right decision by comparing these two machines, describing their similarities and differences, and pointing out their highs and lows.

As an avid coffee drinker, I've been through quite a few coffee machines, so I hope my experience helps you determine the right fit for you.

Are you ready to learn more about the Breville and DeLonghi Nespresso machines? Let's get into it!

A Brief bit of Confusion Cleared Up

Have you bought a Nespresso machine manufactured by a well-known brand but found Nespresso’s name imprinted on it instead? This has created a bit of confusion among DeLonghi and Breville enthusiasts.

Why doesn't DeLonghi and Breville appear branded on it if they are the ones manufacturing Nespresso machines?

See how this can be confusing?

You see, Nespresso isn’t the one who manufactures these machines. Nespresso may have invented the technology these machines use, but the brand outsources the manufacturing process to well-known and high quality companies like DeLonghi and Breville. For that reason, Nespresso retains brand ownership over these machines while touting the build quality of the brands it has chosen to build them.

That said, whichever Nespresso machine you intend to buy, I’m sure you’ll love it either way, given the reputation the machines have to uphold.

That's great and everything, but what is the difference between Nespresso Delonghi and Breville? Who else manufactures these devices?

Which Brands Manufacture Nespresso Machines?

Nespresso sells or licenses products from high quality, well-known coffee equipment manufacturers such as DeLonghi, Breville, Krups, Siemans, Miele, and Eugster/Frismag mostly in Europe.

Due to the high number of different manufacturers out there, you are bound to come across Nespresso machines sporting a myriad of designs and functionality. However, if you are in North America, chances are that most of the machines you encounter have been built by Breville or DeLonghi.

Let's look at these two brands.

Overview of DeLonghi

DeLonghi is an Italian coffee maker brand with a ton of experience building top-tier espresso machines. Using its existing knowledge of espresso-brewing, combined with Nespresso-pod technology, you can rest assured that DeLonghi Nespresso machines will perform well.

The main difference between the DeLonghi espresso machines and Nespresso machines is that DeLonghi, on its own, excels in manufacturing bean-to-brew systems while Nespresso utilizes a pod mechanism similar to Keurig.

The Nespresso-branded Delonghi machines usually include an integrated hot milk system and large water reservoirs.

Overview of Breville

Breville is an Australian coffee maker brand that gives you more manual control over espresso shots like cappuccinos, americanos, and lattes.

Breville is prominent for its articulating steaming wands, but parallels as a brand that is well-known for bean-to-brew espresso machines, among many other types of kitchen appliances.

Comparison between Nespresso Breville vs Delonghi

Before we talk about the differences between the two manufacturers, let's first look at what makes them the same. You may be surprised to learn how similar both manufacturers are.

Mirrored Specs

Both brands produce similar-quality Nespresso coffee. The reason is simple: Nespresso provides tech schematics to which each manufacturer must adhere.

In this respect, both DeLonghi and Breville are following the specification requirements set by Nespresso. As a result, they’ll make machines that use the same general technology with mostly identical technical specifications.

For example, both Breville and DeLonghi machines use the exact same pressure rating, capsule mechanisms, brewing ratio, water reservoir specifics, and brewing temperature.

The outcome? You'll brew the same quality of the coffee no matter which machine you choose.

Similar Brewing Size

The brewing systems employed by the Nespresso DeLonghi and Breville coffee machines is similar. They use centrifusion technology and barcode reading. Both brands produce exquisite coffee in 5oz, 8oz, 14oz, and 18oz cup sizes using Nespresso proprietary capsule pods.

Different Appearance

There is one common difference among all machines built by Breville and DeLonghi. Their APPEARANCE.

Design aesthetic closely ties to the manufacturer's branding to the Nespresso Machine and is the MAIN reason someone should choose a Breville over a DeLonghi or visa versa.

While the design differences may be subtle, the straightforward and sleek design of a DeLonghi Nespresso machine will fit in much better with other DeLonghi machines with a similar appearance in your kitchen.

Other than their appearance there is no difference in the internal apparatus of these machines.

You may wonder why buy a DeLonghi or Breville Nespresso machine at all. Since these brands have their own machines, doesn't it make sense to just go for the original? Sure, if you love the process of making an espresso.

Nespresso technology aims to simplify and make more convenient, the process of preparing the perfect espresso shot. But at what price?

In exchange for ease of use and convenience, you are opting for a pod-based system which may not be the best solution for the Earth conscious, unless you buy Earth-friendly Nespresso pods.

Which Nespresso Products do DeLonghi and Breville make?

Both Breville and DeLonghi produce the following Nespresso machines and most of these models come with a Nespresso Aeroccino milk frother. You'll notice that most of the aesthetic is similar, but there are slight differences in bezel and form-factor.

Nespresso Inissia – Breville vs Delonghi

DeLonghi Inissia

Breville Inissia

The Similarities:

The two Nespresso Inissia models work very similarly in that they both brew an excellent espresso in under a minute with a nice layer of crema. I did not notice any real difference between the two when it comes to brew quality or time.

The Differences:

The Delonghi we tested was virtually silent, but the Breville version made loud vibration noises as it brewed and extracted the espresso. I don't suppose anything was wrong with it, just my experience. I think this isn't that big of an issue, but could be a factor for you.

Nespresso Pixie – Breville vs Delonghi

DeLonghi Pixie

Breville Pixie

The Similarities:

Both models come with foldable cup support to clear room for larger containers. They are both made from high quality materials, feel durable, and the extra metal panel on the side adds a great aesthetic to both models.

The Differences:

The Breville Pixie has a slightly larger water reservoir and is a little lighter, though the DeLonghi Pixe has a slightly faster heat-up time. The DeLonghi we tested leaked a little when the tank was completely full. This is easy enough to avoid, but there were no problems with the Breville.

Nespresso Essenza Mini – Breville vs Delonghi

DeLonghi Essenza Mini

Breville Essenza Mini

The Similarities:

Nespresso Essenza Mini by Breville and Delonghi is a perfect space-saving option. It also has a 19-bar pump pressure for its extraction method and It has a three minutes eco-mode after the last brewing. The best part: it will automatically shut off after nine minutes.

The Differences:

Nespresso Essenza Mini by Delonghi comes in black, lime, and red colors. While Breville comes in black.

Nespresso CitiZ – Breville vs Delonghi

DeLonghi CitiZ

Breville CitiZ

The Similarities:

Nespresso Citiz Breville and Delonghi come in a slim and compact design with two programmable cup sizes. Both models have an adjustable water tank and built-in Aeroccino milk frother. Whether it is Nespresso Citiz by Delonghi or Breville both give you two coffee alternatives, namely, lungo and espresso.

The Differences:

Nespresso CitiZ by Breville has red and silver options, while the DeLonghi has black, white, and chrome finishes. Also, Delonghi has a higher spout than Breville.

Nespresso Vertuo – Breville vs Delonghi

DeLonghi Vertuo

Breville Vertuo

The Similarities:

Both models have an adjustable cup system that allows you to adjust the cup support from the dispenser nozzle. This is a great feature for those of us who like to make iced Americanos right in the glass. They both also have a descale feature. The espressos are great from both models.

The Differences:

The DeLonghi Vertuo has a larger water capacity, which is great for brewing a couple beverages in one filling, but there again with the leaking. When completely full, the DeLonghi Vertuo model tends to leak a bit, while the Breville seems to never have any issues with leaking and it heats up nearly twice as fast.

Nespresso VertuoPlus – Breville vs Delonghi

DeLonghi VertuoPlus

Breville VertuoPlus

The Similarities:

Apart from centrifusion tech and barcode reading, Nespresso Vertuo Plus Breville and Delonghi have motorized opening and closing, automatic coffee pod ejection, and automatic off mode.

The Differences:

Nespresso Vertuo Plus by Delonghi has a chrome finish with a flat top and black, gray, ink black, red, titan, and LE black matte colors. While the Breville one has a rounded top and has a gray and black matte finish.

Nespresso VertuoPlus Deluxe – Breville vs Delonghi

DeLonghi VertuoPlus Deluxe

Breville VertuoPlus Deluxe

The Similarities:

Both machines produce a flawless espresso, but have the ability to make several other espresso beverages. While I didn't try every combination of setting for both machines, they seem to operate similarly. I really enjoy how this machine can prepare multiple cups before having to refill. This feature alone makes this my favorite model out of all that we tested.

The Differences:

In this test, we noticed that the Breville was the one with a leaking problem, but it was minor and likely user error on my part. The Breville heats up a little faster, but is nearly twice as heavy as the DeLonghi. The metal accents on the Breville also make it a bit more expensive than the Delonghi. The Delonghi is super quiet and leak-free.

Nespresso Vertuo Next – Breville vs Delonghi

DeLonghi Vertuo Next

Breville Vertuo Next

The Similarities:

Apart from centrifusion tech and barcode reading, Nespresso Vertuo Next has the connectivity feature, which means you can connect your machine to your Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Also, it comes with Aeroccino 3 by Breville and Delonghi.

The Differences:

Nespresso Vertuo Next by Breville comes with a sleek chrome finish, in light gray and red. Delonghi comes with an aesthetic design, including black with metallic rose gold, white, dark gray, and black matte. The best part: their machines will give you complimentary welcome kits for the first use.

The Best Keurig for Iced Coffee in 2023

We tested four of the ‘best’ Keurigs with iced coffee making capabilities to determine the ultimate winner for iced coffee.

We looked at all the important factors:

  • Price
  • Durability
  • Dimensions
  • Water reservoir capacity
  • Options for K-Cups

Our number one pick, which satisfied all our very strict criteria, was the K-Elite. The K-Elite has a huge water reservoir, multiple cup sizes, a stylish design, and loads of features such as quiet-brew technology and auto-off.

This Keurig also has a super user-friendly LCD display.

The K-Elite also comes with high altitude settings and is considered by many (including us!) to be Keurig’s most powerful and versatile machine.

Even though the K-Elite is our number one choice, we looked at four different Keurigs and you have to keep in mind that the best Keurig for you is the one that meets your particular needs.

So have a look at our ultimate pros and cons list of four different Keurigs which can make iced coffee to find out which is the model for you.

Keurig Product Reviews (in depth)

Keurig K-Elite

The Keurig K-Elite is one of Keurig’s most popular coffee maker, and currently retails at $129.99. It was the first Keurig that could brew both hot and cold coffee. The K-Elite has dimensions of 9.9”x12.7”x13.1” (w x d x h) and a weight of 8 lbs.

keurig

Pros

  • The K-Elite has a 75 oz water reservoir – this is one of the largest water tanks out of all of Keurig’s coffee makers. This means that you won’t have to constantly be refilling the reservoir.
  • The K-Elite offers five different cup sizes: 4 oz, 6 oz, 8 oz, 10 oz, and 12 oz. All these cup sizes will make sure that you’ll have a lot of variety in terms of the different brew sizes you can enjoy.
  • The K-Elite’s exterior is made from metal and steel, so even though it’s a larger model, it’ll still look really great in your kitchen.
  • This model doesn’t have any form of pod scanning technology. This means that the K-Elite is compatible with pods that are licensed from Keurig along with third-party pods as well. Due to this lack of scanning, you can be sure you’ll have a lot of variety in the different pod options available to you.
  • A lot of Keurig machines have earned a reputation for being pretty loud. Not the K-Elite though, it has to be one of the quietest Keurigs out there. With its quiet brew technology, it’ll be a minimal disturbance.
  • The K-Elite has a dedicated iced coffee feature that can be used on demand.

Cons

  • Even though the K-Elite’s exterior has some metal on it, it’s still majorly composed of plastic, and this means it isn’t as durable as some other coffee machines.

Keurig K-Supreme

The Keurig K-Supreme currently retails at around $139 and is the original model in Keurig’s K-Supreme product line. With the water tank on its back, the dimensions are 6.4”x15.1”x 12.2” (w x d x h). It weighs around 8.1 lbs.

Pros

  • The K-Supreme uses multi-stream technology. This means that it produces more than one stream of water in order to soak the coffee grounds in a more even way. This technique leads to a more aromatic, flavorful brew.
  • The K-Supreme is super quick and will brew you a quality, rich cup of coffee in less than a minute.
  • This model has a dedicated iced coffee feature: this makes sure that your coffee doesn’t lose its strong flavor after adding ice.
  • The K-Supreme has four cup sizes to choose from – 6 oz, 8 oz, 10 oz, and 12 oz.
  • The K-Supreme has an incredibly slim and minimalistic time. While it has a lot of height, it doesn’t have a lot of width so it won’t take up too much room on your counter.
  • The K-Supreme has a pretty massive water reservoir of 66 oz. This means you won’t have to constantly be refilling the water tank, especially if you’re a frequent drinker.

Cons

  • The K-Supreme doesn’t have a setting for specialty or milk based drinks, which means it isn’t exactly the most versatile machines.

Keurig K-Café

The Keurig K-Café is priced at around $180 and is Keurig’s offering as a specialty drink maker. It has dimensions of 15.3"x 11.7"x12.5" (w x d x h) and weighs 10 lbs.

cafe

Pros

  • The K-Café, like most Keurigs, doesn’t have any problems in the water reservoir department. With a reservoir that has a capacity of 60 oz, this machine will be super convenient to use as you won’t constantly have to be refilling the water tank.
  • The integrated frother in the K-Café has three settings, which will let you have your pick of what type of drink you want. These settings include a latte setting, a cappuccino setting, and a cold setting.
  • Compared to other Keurigs, this coffee maker is relatively quieter and you’ll be able to wait for your cup of joe without too much noise.
  • The K-Café has four cup settings – 6 oz, 8 oz, 10 oz, and 12 oz – meaning you’ll have a lot of variety in terms of cup sizes to choose from.

Cons

  • The K-Café is pretty large. Not just in bulk, but also in its dimensions. With a width of 15.3 inches, this machine will take up a fair bit of space on your countertop.
  • This machine is relatively more expensive than a lot of Keurigs, so there are definitely more affordable options out there.

Keurig K-Duo Single Serve and Carafe Coffee Maker

The K-Duo Single Serve and Carafe Coffee Maker currently retails for $139.99. It has dimensions of 10.9"x 12.8"x 12.9” (w x d x h) and weighs approximately 10.7 lbs. This Keurig is famous for its flexibility and is part of the K-Duo line.

single coffee maker

Pros

  • The K-Duo doesn’t use any sort of pod scanning technology so you’ll have a lot of options in terms of pod choices.
  • It has strong brew options for both single-serve beverages and 60 oz carafes.
  • Considering how some Keurigs can be pretty loud, the K-Duo is definitely on the quieter side.

Cons

  • The construction of the machine has come under criticism as some users have experienced leakage, especially while brewing carafes.
  • The K-Duo uses a glass carafe which requires a heating plate. This has caused problems with some users as this consumes more energy and can also sometimes lead to the coffee having a burnt taste.
  • The K-Duo isn’t the smallest of machines. With a width of 10.9 inches, it’ll take up a fair bit of space on your counter.

Common Keurig Features:

K-Cups

K-Cups are plastic-packed individual sized servings containing tea or coffee. K-Cups are now Keurig’s standard pod and are used by the machine by puncturing the K-Cup to release the flavor inside.

While official Keurig K-Cups are manufactured by Keurig, the company has also partnered with other brands like Starbucks to produce special variants of K-Cups.

While more expensive than ground coffee, these K-Cups provide a lot of variety to the on-the-go coffee drinker.

Pour-Over Water Tanks

A pour-over water tank is when a water tank has to manually be refilled by hand. Some of these water tanks can be massive like the K-Elite’s 75 oz tank while others are smaller like the K-Duo’s 60 oz water tank.

You should look at the capacity of a water tank before deciding if you’re going to buy it as people who drink more frequently throughout the day may want larger tanks so they don’t have to constantly keep refilling them.

Single-serve Cups

Most Keurigs make use of single-serving cups. These are great for a lot of reasons. Firstly, it means you’ll have less waste. When portions larger than single-serve cups are used, it can lead to excess coffee being left over and wasted.

Moreover, if you’re buying your Keurig for a workspace, having single-serve portions means that every person can individually choose how exactly they like their coffee brewed and not have to conform to some overall standard.

Things to consider before buying a Keurig coffee maker for iced coffee

Iced Coffee Function

If you’re a fan of iced coffee, but also want your brew to be super strong then you have to know the importance of having a machine with a dedicated iced coffee function.

When ice is added to a brew afterwards, it has a tendency to weaken the strength of the beverage. That’s why the iced coffee function is important: the machine anticipates the adding ice and compensates for the loss of flavor by producing an extra strong brew.

Due to this fact, it's vital to get a Keurig that has either a dedicated iced coffee feature or one that has a strong brew feature.

With the strong brew feature, you can use it and add ice to get a moderately concentrated and rich drink. Some machines, even have both these features, for example, the K-Elite and the K-Supreme are two Keurigs which each has these two functions.

Inbuilt Frother

Inbuilt fathers can be lifesavers both in terms of convenience and budget. If a machine already has a frother built in, you can brew milk-based drinks like lattes without having to pay up the extra cost of the frother.

The Available Space

With most coffee machines, but especially with Keurigs you have to be careful about the dimensions of the machines. Known to be bulky, Keurigs can be a huge burden on your counter.

That’s why you need to take note of how much space you have in your kitchen for your machine.

A machine which tackles Keurig’s height issues is the K-Supreme. The K-Supreme is rather small in terms of width but you still have to be careful about its height and making sure it fits in your kitchen.

Other ways to ensure you’ll always have enough space is by purchasing a Keurig with a movable water reservoir.

Most Keurigs have huge reservoirs of 60 oz and these take up a lot of space on each machine. That’s why, if you find a machine where the reservoir can be adjusted to either the back or the side (the K-Elite is one such machine) it’ll add flexibility to where you can put it.

Compatible with K-cups and Reusable Coffee Filters

Ensuring compatibility with K-Cups in your machine are of the utmost importance. You want a machine which is as compatible with as many K-Cups as possible – that way you’ll have the most choices.

Getting a machine which can use reusable coffee filters can also be a great help, this way you can use your own coffee grounds in your Keurig machine.

Extra Features

Other important features that’ll make your Keurig experience much more convenient include: Auto-off and Auto-on options. These options are features of smart Keurigs which sense when the machine is or isn’t in use and turn on and off accordingly.

The Auto-off feature is especially important because by shutting off when the machine isn’t active, you Keurig is saving you a lot of precious dollars.

Some Keurigs also have travel mug compatibility – if you’re a drinker on the go, then this feature can really be a lifesaver and super convenient.

How Easy it is clean

Coffee makers can be hubs for bacteria and fungi when not cleaned properly. We know that cleaning can be such a chore, so you should try and look for a machine which makes the cleaning process as simple and convenient as possible.

Which Keurig machine should you buy iced coffee?

After assessing the strengths and weaknesses of many different Keurigs, we’ve come to the conclusion that the K-Elite is the best choice for iced coffee.

The K-Elite is affordable, it is stylish, and comes with a dedicated iced coffee button that makes sure you have a strong, flavorful cup every single time.

It comes fitted with quiet brew technology, which makes sure your coffee experience is as peaceful as possible.

The K-Elite has the greatest number of features and is the most versatile out of all the Keurigs we’ve tried. It has a massive 75 oz water reservoir and offers five different cup size options.

Moreover, despite its flexibility and features, it's pretty compact and won’t be taking up too much space on your counter.

The K-Elite can also fit a travel mug and out of all the Keurigs we reviewed, it has the highest number of features and a lot of flexibility in comparison to the other models we looked at.

FAQs

Do you need iced coffee pods for Keurig?

No, you don’t need special iced coffee pods for Keurigs. All you need is a Keurig, which has an iced coffee feature and then just add ice to the brew that it makes.

The importance of having a Keurig with an iced coffee feature is that it’ll make an extra strong brew so your coffee isn’t watered down once you add ice.

What does the iced button on Keurig do?

The iced button on a Keurig is designed to make sure your coffee is extra strong and concentrated so that when you add ice to it, none of the flavor is lost or watered down.

To do so, the best option is to use a home cold brew coffee maker, and in this article, we are going to look at 5 of the very best available.

We will review their many features and also highlight the pros and cons of each one so that you can make the most informed choice.

HOME COLD BREW COFFEE MAKER REVIEWS

1. KITCHENAID KCM4212SX COLD BREW COFFEE MAKER

The KitchenAid KCM4212SX coffee maker comes from one of the top kitchen brands in the space, so we have high expectations in terms of both its quality and ability to make great coffee.

REVIEW

You will immediately see that unlike many coffee makers, which tend to be designed as pots with a pouring spout, this one is designed with a tap.

It is certainly larger than most, with a capacity which allows you to make 14 servings, making it ideal for larger families or when you might have several guests who all drink cold brew coffee.

The main container is made from glass with all the other components, including the lid and the handle being made from stainless steel.

This not only prolongs the life of the coffee maker but also makes it very easy to clean.

The handle makes it easily portable so that you can take it to any room or outdoors in order to dispense the coffee.

To make cold brew coffee all you need do is fill the steeper with the appropriate amount of coffee grinds and then add water or milk in a 3:1 proportion using the measurement markers on the steeper.

Did You Know? Once brewed you can store the coffee maker in the refrigerator where it will keep your cold brew coffee fresh for up to 14 days.

KitchenAid KCM4212SX Cold Brew Coffee Maker

Pros

  • Large capacity – 14 serving

  • Very easy cleanup

  • Handle for portability

  • Measurement markings

  • Dispensing tap

CONS

  • Pours very slowly
  • Filter allows some residual grinds to get through

2. OSAKA GLASS COLD BREW COFFEE MAKER

The slim and very simplistic design of the Osaka Glass Cold Brew Coffee Maker not only makes it visually appealing, but it is also very simple to make great tasting coffee with it.

REVIEW

We’ll start with the design we mentioned in the intro, and as it is so slim, there should be no issues with it being able to be stored in the refrigerator once you have made coffee and allow it to brew for up to 24 hours.

Alternatively, this will let you keep your brewed coffee fresh for 7 up to 14 days.

Making coffee in the first place is done by adding grinds into the stainless steel filter. You then simply add water to the level required and place the lid in the top of the carafe.

Being made from stainless steel allows the filter to resist rust and makes it more durable. The lid is made from silicone and therefore provides an airtight seal to help keep your coffee fresh.

The coffee maker is made from premium borosilicate glass which has many advantages over standard glass including the fact that it will not absorb residue or odors both of which can adversely affect the flavor of your coffee.

The spout is designed for easy pouring and when not in use has a silicone stopper to keep your coffee fresh and prevent leaks.

Osaka Coffee Glass Cold Brew Coffee Maker

Pros

  • Made from thermal shock-resistant glass
  • Silicone lid to keep carafe airtight
  • Easy pour spout and stopper
  • Keeps coffee fresh for  7 days
  • Stainless steel filter is easy to clean

CONS

  • Handle is very thin and delicate
  • Lid leaks if overfilled
  • Can be a bit messy when transferring grounds from the carafe to the bin.

3. CRAVE COLD BREW COFFEE MAKER & TEA INFUSER KIT

Your first thought when looking at the Crave Cold Brew Coffee Maker and Tea Infuser Kit is that it looks more like a large jar, and you’d be right, as that is exactly what it is meant to look like.

REVIEW

To simply call this product a coffee maker would be doing it a bit of a disservice because it has been designed to be a complete beverage kit, capable of making hot or cold tea and coffee.

It consists of the main body which as we mentioned in the intro is a jar capable of holding 2 quarts of liquid, or 8 cups which means it is capable of making more coffee than many cold brew coffee makers can.

The filter is made from stainless steel and comes with a lifetime guarantee, so if it's ever damaged in any way or corrodes you can get a replacement.

The process is the same as with most cold brew coffee makers and that is to add your coffee grinds into the filter and pour in the required amount of water.

Then simply screw on the cap and leave your coffee to brew with the ideal place being in the refrigerator.

Within 24 hours it should be fully brewed and ready to be poured from the cap, which can be opened and closed as required, in much the same way as a sports drink bottle is.

Crave Cold Brew Coffee Maker & Tea Infuser Kit

Pros

  • Distinctive glass jar design
  • Stainless steel filter
  • Brews within 24 hours
  • Can be used to make tea or coffee
  • Lifetime filter guarantee

CONS

  • The lid can be difficult to screw off
  • Tend to leak from the cap

4. PRIMULA PCBBK-5351 COLD BREW & ICED COFFEE MAKER

Next, we have one of the simplest looking coffee makers, we have ever reviewed, the Primula PCBBK-5351, but that does not mean it is any way inferior, especially as it is manufactured by one of the top kitchenware brands, Primula.

REVIEW

Many say simple is best which is presumably what Primula had in mind when designing this cold brew coffee maker.

Its main carafe is made from borosilicate glass which should help prolong the life of the product.

Note: It has a capacity of 1.6 quarts giving it the ability to make around 6 to 7 cups of coffee.

Inside we find the filter unit which is constructed mainly from fine mesh to ensure no coffee grinds escape into your brewed coffee.

Once you have added coffee grinds, simply add water to the required level, albeit you will need to pre-measure the amount of water due to no measurement markings on the carafe.

You can then seal the coffee maker by closing the silicone lid and placing the coffee maker in the fridge.

After 24 hours you should a carafe full of delicious cold brew coffee, which will stay fresh for up to 14 days. You can pour it directly from the coffee maker thanks to the spout.

The last feature we must mention is the non-slip silicone base which will also help prevent any tables from being marked when it is placed on them.

Primula Pace Cold Brew Iced Coffee Maker

Pros

  • Carafe made from borosilicate glass
  • Thick, sturdy handle
  • Silicone non-slip base
  • Excellent value for money
  • Keeps coffee fresh for 14 days

CONS

  • No markings on carafe for measuring
  • The instruction manual is poorly written

5. ASOBU COLDBREW INSULATED PORTABLE BREWER

Our final cold brew coffee maker review looks at what we can safely say is the most unique design we have seen so far, and certainly the most eye-catching thanks to its copper carafe, the Asobu Cold Brew Insulated Portable Brewer.

REVIEW

There is plenty which is unique about this coffee maker and none more so than the process by which it brews your coffee.

The product is effectively split into two parts

  • With the filter in the top section
  • The carafe underneath.

You add coffee and water into the filter section, but you do so three times, whereby you add a third of the coffee and water you plan to make, each time.

Once all three have been added you then seal the unit with the small orange cap on the top.

When this has been done, you then screw the lid on, shake the coffee maker a little and then leave the coffee to brew.

Once brewed, you then press the button underneath the filter section, and you will see all the coffee disappear and go into the copper carafe, which is fun.

You can now screw the carafe lid on, and then take it to wherever you and your guests plan to drink your coffees. Once there, you open the carafe and pour.

Although the carafe has copper insulation on the outside, it is actually made from stainless steel, as are the other metal parts such as its screw-on lid, and its mesh filter.

Asobu Coldbrew Portable Cold Brew Coffee Maker

Pros

  • Distinctive design and color
  • Unique process
  • Carafe is portable
  • Does not require refrigeration
  • Easy to clean

CONS

  • Lid for thermos occasionally sticks
  • Rubber rings can be difficult to remove

FINAL VERDICT

The home cold brew coffee makers, we have reviewed were certainly diverse, with each of them having their own individual pros and cons and some very unique features which made picking our top one a difficult task.

In the end, we chose the Primula PCBBK-5351 Cold Brew & Iced Coffee Maker for two main reasons.

The first is that it is very simple and straightforward to use, so anyone should be able to make cold brew coffee with it.

The second reason that it has all the features we are looking for in a cold brew coffee maker.

These include ease of use, easy to clean, robust materials, strong handles, decent capacity, non-slip base, and its price also makes it excellent value for money, which is always welcome.

COLD BREW COFFEE MAKER REVIEWS

1. TAKEYA 10310 DELUXE COLD BREW ICED COFFEE MAKER

Up first is the Takeya 10310 Deluxe Cold Brew Iced Coffee Maker. This simple and inexpensive cold brew coffee maker from Takeya has a smaller capacity than many of the others, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in ease of use.

PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS

This coffee maker may not win any prizes for sophisticated design, but when it comes to using it, it is ideal for making 2 cups of cold brewed coffee, simply and easily.

While its 2-cup capacity means it is not really suitable for making enough coffee for larger families or groups, it is perfect for singles or couples.

The materials used to make it is durable and BPA-free so you can be assured it is safe and should also last well, not least because it is shatterproof which will be good news should it ever be dropped.

The main material will also resist stains and odors, but should it need thorough cleaning it is dishwasher safe. The handle feels strong when carrying the coffee maker, and it is also non-slip thanks to it being made from silicone.

Brewing is very easy, with your only requirements being to add the appropriate amount of coffee grounds, which is normally around 15 tablespoons worth, followed by around 2 pints of water.

You then lower the infuser into the water, close the lid, and shake. Your cold brew coffee should be ready within 36 hours.

This coffee maker is leakproof thanks to its airtight lid, so you should not experience any spillages when shaking or pouring.

WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE ABOUT THE TAKEYA 10310 DELUXE COLD BREW ICED COFFEE MAKER?

With all its great features it is very disappointing that the capacity of this coffee maker, of just two full cups, is so limited.

Takeya Patented Deluxe: Cold Brew Coffee Maker

  • Dishwasher safe
  • Robust and durable
  • Non-slip handle

CONS

  • Capacity is low – just 2 cups

2. OVALWARE AIRTIGHT COLD BREW ICED COFFEE MAKER

The Ovalware RJ3 Cold Brew Maker. This is a cold brew coffee maker, which not only brews great coffee, but should do so for many years, thanks to its stainless steel filter assembly.

PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS

We’ll start with that filter which we mentioned in the intro and highlight that the dual mesh filter and cap are made from medical-grade stainless steel which should ensure that you have no issues with corrosion, and thus the lifetime of your coffee brewer will be prolonged.

To ensure the brewer remains airtight to prevent spillages and to lock in as much coffee flavor as possible, the cap is made from BPA-free silicone.

The main body is made from extra-thick borosilicate glass which is ideal for coffee makers because it is resistant to heat shock.

Making your coffee simply requires you to add your coffee to the filter, and then fill it with water to the required level and stir.

To help you judge this more accurately there are water level marks on the sides of the glass, where you can either measure in cups or milliliters. Your coffee should be brewed and ready to pour with 24 hours.

The height of the coffee maker has been designed so that it should be able to fit on the shelf of most modern refrigerators.

Once you have finished using the coffee brewer it can be rinsed with tap water, or for more thorough cleaning, you can use your dishwasher.

WHAT'S TO LIKE ABOUT THE OVALWARE AIRTIGHT COLD BREW ICED COFFEE MAKER

Not only is this coffee maker very desirable in practical terms, but it is also very aesthetically pleasing and looks great sitting on a kitchen countertop. Or a coffee table.

WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE ABOUT THE OVALWARE AIRTIGHT COLD BREW ICED COFFEE MAKER?

My biggest doubt is over the robustness of the handle which is very thin, and therefore at risk of being cracked or broken should it be bumped or knocked.

OVALWARE: Airtight Cold Brew Iced Coffee Maker and Tea Infuser

Pros

  • Stainless steel filter and cap
  • Airtight silicone seal
  • Thermal shockproof glass
  • Side Measurement markings
  • Brews coffee within 24 hours

CONS

  • Handle looks and feels fragile
  • The filter has a rough edge of the seam

3. TOP-MAX COLD BREW ICED COFFEE MAKER

For a coffee maker which can make fresh cold brew coffee or iced tea, if that is your preference, this offering from Top-Max ticks just about every box

PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS

While many cold brew coffee makers have a wide and round appearance, Top-Max has gone with a tall design for this one, which means it not only looks modern, it should also take up less space.

The main body and handle are made from high-grade borosilicate glass, which is extra-thick and designed to resist any thermal shock when you pour in hot water.

On the outside, you will see markings etched to indicate the water level, which should allow you to pour in the correct amount of water required. The airtight silicone seal will keep all the flavor and will do so for up to 14 days.

Internally you have a stainless steel filter which employs a laser cut infuser double mesh. This will not only ensure your coffee is filtered to perfection, but also that you will not have any issues with rust or corrosion.

This includes when you wash the coffee maker in the dishwasher, which you can do as all its components and materials are dishwasher safe.

One other point on the construction is the handle which is thicker than many other coffee makers have and feels stronger and more durable as a result.

Although primarily designed for making cold brew coffee, it is also suitable for hot coffee too, as well as making both hot and cold tea, giving the maximum flexibility when it comes to making beverages at home.

WHAT'S TO LIKE ABOUT THE TOP-MAX COLD BREW ICED COFFEE MAKER

The ability to use this coffee maker to make different types of beverages is highly appealing, especially when you may have guests who are not coffee drinkers.

WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE ABOUT THE TOP-MAX COLD BREW ICED COFFEE MAKER

While being so thin makes it look great, it does have one downside, and that is it makes it harder to clean the inside without having to use the dishwasher.

TOP-MAX: Cold Brew Coffee Maker

Pros

  • Stainless steel filter and cap
  • Airtight silicone seal
  • Made from high-grade glass
  • Glass handle is thick
  • Keeps coffee fresh for 14 days

CONS

  • Not easy to clean inside
  • Screen edges are not finished

4. BEAN ENVY COLD BREW COFFEE MAKER

The Bean Envy cold brew coffee maker is an ideal addition to your kitchenware, especially if you love a full-flavored cold coffee to help you cool down, or simply want a refreshing beverage.

PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS

Bean Envy places a lot of emphasis on the quality of their products, and this cold brew coffee maker certainly seems to fall line with that description. The main body is made from premium borosilicate glass which is perfect this type of product.

One feature they have added, which few other coffee makers have, is a silicone sleeve at the base of the coffee maker.

This not only protects both the coffee maker and the surfaces you are placing it on, but should it be bumped, it also reduces the risk of it sliding across smooth surfaces.

As you’d expect, the cap is made airtight to keep the coffee fresh for longer. This is achieved due to two silicone rings being used around the edges of it and the top of the coffee maker. The cap itself is made from stainless to prevent rusting, as is the main filter housing.

The filter is precision cut and is designed to filter your cold brew coffee within 24 hours. All you do is add the required amount of coffee and then water to the required amount.

You can use the measurement markings on the sides of the coffee maker to ensure you fill it to the correct level.

WHAT'S TO LIKE ABOUT THE BEAN ENVY COLD BREW COFFEE MAKER?

The silicone base is a very welcome feature, and there is patent pending on its design. It makes placing the coffee maker on surfaces safer, with less risk of either the glass base or the surface underneath being damaged.

WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE ABOUT THE BEAN ENVY COLD BREW COFFEE MAKER?

The manufacturer has decided not to have a spout at the top of this coffee maker, therefore you can’t pour coffee without removing the cap, which is an unnecessary inconvenience.

Bean Envy: Cold Brew Coffee Maker

Pros

  • Two-ringed silicone seal
  • High-grade glass
  • Stainless steel filter and cap
  • Protective silicone base
  • Tight fitting cap to seal in freshness

CONS

  • Lid and filter need to be removed to pour
  • Filter and filter gasket are flimsy

5. COFFEE BEAR COLD BREW COFFEE MAKER

For our final review of cold brew coffee makers, we have this one from ‘Coffee Bear’ who apart from offering you the product itself, also send you a free, and very useful, cold brew coffee eBook.

PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS

While the free coffee recipe eBook will allow you to make more interesting coffees, it should go without saying that the main test is whether or not this coffee maker can do the basics.

It should certainly do that, thanks to the reinforced mesh filter unit which is made from BPA-free, commercial nylon.

It also has a removable cap, which makes it very easy to clean and remove used coffee grounds. For further cleaning, the coffee maker is dishwasher safe.

The main unit is made from borosilicate glass to withstand high temperatures, and its bigger than the usual size means it can hold up to 44 fluid ounces or 2 3/4 pints if you prefer.

This gives it a greater capacity than many of the other cold brew coffee makers available. Despite this larger capacity, it’s still small enough to enable it to fit easily into your refrigerator.

The handle is solid and easy to grip so pouring your coffee should be trouble-free, especially as the pouring spout has been designed to make it easy as possible.

Another great feature is the silicon base which provides you with the benefit of the carafe not slipping or sliding and also helps to prevent any marking of tables or countertops when it is placed on them.

WHAT'S TO LIKE ABOUT THE COFFEE BEAR COLD BREW COFFEE MAKER?

The fact that this coffee maker can be easily disassembled after use for washing, either by hand or in the dishwasher, is an excellent feature and ensures that it will always be clean and fresh when making a new carafe of coffee.

WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE ABOUT THE COFFEE BEAR COLD BREW COFFEE MAKER?

For all its great features, it does lack a very basic one, and that is measurement markings on the sides so that you can add the correct amount of water for the amount of coffee you want to make.

Coffee Bear – Cold Brew Coffee Maker

Pros

  • Very easy to disassemble for cleaning
  • Strong, easy grip handle
  • Made from borosilicate glass
  • Silicone, non-slip base
  • Free coffee recipe eBook

CONS

  • Tends to suffer from condensation
  • Rubber gasket can come loose

BUYER'S GUIDE

Although cold brew coffee makers are not the most advanced products you might buy, there are still a number of features that you should understand when buying.

These may differ from product to product, so to help you become more familiar with them, here is a short buying guide which explains the main things to look for.

FILTERS

Filters will normally be made from either stainless steel or from a BPA-free material. In both cases there will be mesh which is a vital part of the brewing process.

Look for how fine the mesh is, as the finer ones will be more adept at stopping coffee grinds getting through and leaking into your coffee.

MATERIALS

Most cold brew coffee makers are made from glass, and this should be a premium type of glass called borosilicate.

There are some coffee makers, which are instead made from a special BPA-free material.

In both cases you want to check that the main material is resistant to thermal shock, especially if you intend to use your coffee maker for both cold, and hot beverages.

Other materials that may be used are silicone which is often found around the cap seal, the handle and is also used to create a non-slip base for some coffee makers.

QUALITY

Individual buyers often have different opinions about what they might class as quality, however, for specific products there are always certain minimum standards.

With cold brew coffee makers, these should include having airtight seals, a strong handle, a carafe made from thermal shock resistant material, should be able to brew within a reasonable amount of time (24-36 hours) and ideally be capable of storing coffee in the refrigerator for up to 14 days.

USER-FRIENDLINESS

User-friendliness for cold brew coffee makers falls into three parts; brewing the coffee, pouring the coffee, and cleaning the coffee maker.

For brewing you want something where it’s easy to add your coffee grounds and water.

For pouring, it is preferable to have a spout, and also part of this is an easy to grip handle.

Finally, a dishwasher-safe coffee maker is always preferable, but if not, the ability to take out the filter and easily wash everything is what you are looking for.

DESIGN

Apart from being easy to use as we have just described, you will find two basic designs. The first is a coffee maker which is low in height and has a wider diameter.

The second is, taller and therefore thinner, given that most have similar capacities. There is no right and wrong, other than how much space is needed to store it, and your own preference for each style.

PRICE

Cold brew coffee makers are very inexpensive compared to lots of other kitchen items. The maximum price of the ones we have reviewed is less than $30, with the lowest being $19.99.

The differences in terms of features at either price point is very small.

COLD BREW COFFEE MAKER FAQS

HOW DO I USE A COLD BREW COFFEE MAKER?

While each individual cold brew coffee maker may have slight nuances, the normal process is as follows:

Add your coffee grounds into the filter unit, and then fill the coffee maker with room temperature water, up to the level you require in terms of the number of cups.

If your coffee maker does not have markings on the side, then you will need to measure the quantity of water using a measuring jug beforehand.

Next, replace the cap to seal the coffee maker, shake it well, and then store it in the refrigerator for a minimum of 24 hours. When the brewing process is complete, your cold brew coffee should be ready to pour.

HOW DOES A COLD BREW COFFEE MAKER WORK?

Although the term ‘brewing’ is commonly used to describe what a cold brew coffee maker does, a more apt term might be ‘steeper.’

This is due to the fact that inside the coffee maker, the coffee grounds sit in cold water for many hours.

This process means that the coffee produced has less acidity, is smoother, and the concentration is stronger too, allowing you to dilute the strength to you, or your guests’ preferences or tastes.

WHERE SHOULD I BUY A COLD BREW COFFEE MAKER?

As they have become increasingly popular in recent years, cold brew coffee makers can be purchased from most reputable stores which sell kitchen equipment and cookware.

Walmart and Target both sell them, and of course, lots of smaller retail outlets do too.

The alternative is to buy your cold brew coffee maker from Amazon, and this has several advantages.

  • The first is that you can have it delivered the next, or even the same day, and this is normally done free of charge if you are an Amazon Prime member.
  • You also have Amazon’s easy-return and exchange process should anything go wrong with your purchase.

CAN YOU FREEZE COLD BREW COFFEE?

The simple this question is ‘yes,’ and in a lot of cases it is the perfect way to store any extra cold brew coffee you have made.

The best way to use frozen cold brew coffee is to make them into ice cubes, which you can then add to your regular cold brew coffee, or other cold coffee beverages to chill them on hot summer days and make them even more refreshing.

Another great idea is to use a food processor to turn frozen cold brew coffee into crushed ice, to make your very own coffee snow cone.

ARE COLD BREW COFFEE MAKERS WORTH IT?

With all the cold brew coffee makers, we have reviewed costing less than $30, they can hardly be described as expensive, even when compared with ordinary kettles which will often be priced over $50.

Another comparison is the cost of buying a cold brew or iced coffee from a high street coffee shop.

These are normally priced between $2.95 and $3.95, so just 10 of these will come to what your coffee maker will cost and remember it will make hundreds of them for you.

FINAL VERDICT

It is always fun reviewing products that produce food or drink, as it not only gets the mind working but the taste buds too.

Given that a cold brew coffee maker isn’t the most technical of products, and that they only really have one function, choosing our top recommendation was very tough, as they all did it very well.

Eventually, we opted for the Coffee Bear Cold Brew Coffee Maker for several reasons.

We loved the fact that it comes with a non-slip base as it stops the coffee maker sliding across smooth countertops, and it also prevents it marking tables, for example.

It is also very easy to use, both in terms of making cold brew coffee and when cleaning it after use. Having a larger capacity than the other coffee makers added to its very desirable features.

The bonus of a free coffee recipe eBook is a nice finishing touch and as it is priced as low of any the other coffee makers, its excellent value for money confirms it as our No. 1 cold brew coffee maker recommendation.
