Anyone who has a Nespresso knows how painful it is when you get up to make your morning cup of joe to find out you’ve run out of pods.

The best way to avoid this is to make sure you’re well stocked in advance.

We’ve made the ultimate guide to all the best stores where you can buy Nespresso pods, no matter what machine you have.

Nespresso Original Line vs. VertuoLine Capsules

Before you buy any pods, you have to make sure you know what kind your Nespresso uses. So, if you have a Nespresso Original Line, you’ll have different options than if you have a Nespresso VertuoLine. The two can’t be used interchangeably.

The Nespresso VertuoLine uses barcode scanning technology which prevents you from using third-party pods. Therefore, you can’t use any pods except the ones made by Nespresso themselves.

The Nespresso Original Line, on the other hand, is compatible with a lot of third-party pods so you’ll have a lot of different options with it.

Where to Buy Nespresso Pods in Stores?

Finding Nespresso pods in-store can be a bit of a challenge. The best places to get them are Nespresso boutiques – these are Nespresso’s official outlets and there are 48 of them in the US.

If you’re really in a pinch and there isn’t a boutique near you, you can also try stores like Target. Starbucks, an official Nespresso partner, also stocks Nespresso pods at Walmart and Sam’s Club so those are also a great option.

Where to buy Nespresso Pods Online?

This is probably the most efficient way to manage your Nespresso pod needs. Online stores also offer a lot more variety, and you’ll be a lot more likely to find something that perfectly suits your particular tastes.

Nespresso

Nespresso’s official website, Nespresso.com, is probably the best option when it comes to the online purchase of pods. This way, there is no chance of getting an unofficial or incompatible product – everything is 100% legit and will work with your particular machine.

The website has a lot of cool features that you can’t really get anywhere else. For one thing, the site lets you buy individual sleeves of a particular pod rather than forcing you to buy loads in one go. This is really helpful if you want to be able to experiment and not commit to just one flavor.

The official website also offers some great deals occasionally, offers that can’t really be matched by other retailers. Nespresso also sells some flavors – labelled ‘Exclusive Flavors’ – only on the site, so using it as your main supplier can give you some unique options to try that you otherwise couldn’t. You also get free shipping for orders over $35 and that’s always a huge bonus!

Amazon

Amazon is authorized by Nespresso to sell Vertuo and Original pods so it’s another great place to get authentic pods for both lines. So if you’re a religious Amazon user, this might be the best option for you as you can use that Prime membership to get free shipping or get a really good discount.

Amazon also has some interesting variety packs available so if you want to try different flavors, you’ll have your pick of unique mixes of pods.

The online retailer also stocks the Starbucks Nespresso pod line so if you’re a fan of those, they have all of those options too. Amazon bought pods are also eligible for Nespresso’s recycling program so if you’re an environmentally conscious customer, you don’t have to worry.

Macy’s

Macy’s is a great option for buying pods because it stocks both Nespresso’s own pods and pods from third parties, which are compatible with the Original Line machine. Macy’s also carries the Nespresso-Starbucks collection so if you’re a fan of that; it’s a great option.

Target

While Target does not stock Nespresso’s own pods, it does stock the Nespresso and Starbucks collaboration. This collection carries pods for both the Nespresso Original Line and the NespressoVertuo. In addition to these, it also carries a lot of Nespresso compatible pods like Lavazza and Peet’s Coffee.

Unfortunately, these third-party pods are only compatible with the Nespresso Original Line so if you have a Vertuo, they won’t work for you.

Bed Bath And Beyond

Bed Bath And Beyond is another good option for satisfying your pod needs. The store retails Nespresso’s own brand of pods along with several third-party pods as well, including Starbucks, Peet’s Coffee, and Cafe Turino.

Another cool benefit with Bed Bath And Beyond is that you can place an order for the pods online and then go pick them up from the outlet nearest to you. The only downside is that you need to spend at least $39 dollars to get free shipping.

Walmart

If you’re a Walmart customer, you’ll be pleased to know that it too stocks Nespresso pods. Walmart sells a limited variety of the Nespresso brand of pods and also sells pods from the Nespresso-Starbucks collaboration.

If you’re an Original Line user, it too sells some great alternative options from third parties for you to try. For VeruoLine users, you’ll be restricted to Nespresso’s own brand and its pods with Starbucks.

Something to be wary of with Walmart is the largest number of unauthorized sellers on their website as well. Make sure you read a product’s description carefully before buying it because it might not be an official retailer for Nespresso so you can’t be sure of how compatible it will be with your machine.

Sam’s Club

Sam’s Club doesn’t stock pods for the VertuoLine so if you’re a Vertuo user, this one isn’t for you. It does, however, sell Starbucks-made pods for the Original Line and that too with an unmatched discount of 25%.

Costco

Costco doesn’t sell pods for the Vertuo line, but it has two great options for Original Line users: Starbucks and Peet’s Coffee. The Starbucks pods are also sold at an almost 25% discount when compared to other retailers, so if you’re a user of those, going to Costco could give you a really good deal.

Save Money on Nespresso Pods

Even though some of these options give you some good deals, being a Nespresso user isn’t a cheap habit. With an average pod costing around $0.90, Nespresso pods can leave a big dent in your bank account.

However, there are some great ways to save money while still being able to enjoy great coffee. One of the main ways you can do this is by subscribing to the Nespresso.com’s mailing list. This list will keep you up to date on all the great discounts and offers.

Also, if you’re an Original Line user, then you have a lot of cheaper alternatives like Target’s own coffee brand: ‘Good & Gather’. Good & Gather pods are around $5.99, which is significantly less than the average Nespresso sleeve price of $11.

Another option could also be to start reusing capsules. It might not be as intense of a brew as it was the first time, but it’ll still make for a decent and, more important, an economical cup.

Alternative to Nespresso Brand Capsules

Cheap, reusable pods (Original Line)

If you want to really decrease your costs for Nespresso pods, the most viable option is probably looking at reusable pods from third parties. The best option is a brand called Recaps and it can be found on Amazon.

Recaps’ sells a set of three pods with 120 replaceable lids at a cost of around $48. While this may seem pricey at first, you have to consider that one set of these pods can last up to 10 years so you’re definitely getting your money’s worth.

Other great (and cheap) options include Alchemy Bar Goods and i Cafilas, both of which are also on Amazon.

Premium resealable pods (Original Line)

The best option for resealable pods is probably Seal Pod’s line of Refillable Nespresso pods. The kit comes with two steel pods, 120 sticker lids, and two covers. These pods are not only kind to your wallet, but are also great for the environment.

Resealable foil lids (VertuoLine)

There are a few good options for VertuoLine users who are looking for reusable foil lids.

One of the best of these includes RECAPS Seal Pod’s Aluminum Sticker Lids. These lids come in a pack of 120 and have a sturdy design to make sure they don’t rip during your coffee making process.

Another good option is Recap’s Aluminum Foil Lids which come in a pack of 100 and are easily available on Amazon.

FAQS

What is a Nespresso boutique?

Nespresso boutiques offer coffee-lovers the chance to try the company’s variety of espressos and coffees in a calming and luxurious environment so they can fully enjoy the experience. Customers will also be assisted by coffee specialists who can help them figure out their perfect brews and give personalized advice.

Do supermarkets sell Nespresso pods?

Most supermarkets like Target and Walmart might not sell Nespresso’s own brand of pods, but they will likely have Nespresso compatible pods along with Nespresso’s collaborations with Starbucks. Other than Nespresso’s Starbucks collaboration, these third party pods can only be used for the Nespresso Original Line.

Why are Nespresso pods not sold in stores?

Nespresso is pretty particular about which stores it sells its own brand of pods in. Nespresso markets its products as luxury goods and as such, it wants to maintain the premium value by only having a limited number of retailers for them.

Can you use other pods in Nespresso Vertuo?

No, other than Nespresso’s own brand of pods and its collaboration with Starbucks, no other third party pods can be used in the VertuoLine machines.
